These unique pieces are made of a mix of serpentinite (rock) and clay. Our serpentinite (rock) and clay pieces are made from a unique craftwork process. The dry serpentinite is hammered into powder and mixed together with the clay in ratio of 70% serpentinite to 30% clay, which allows for sturdy yet statuesque shaping. The products are then formed by hand and with bamboo tools. The finished pieces are smoothed with stone. After being fired in a kiln, each piece is covered with leaves. The smoke from the leaves against the hot serpentinite creates the dark, radiant finish. All these pieces are recommended for decorative use only.
